This is the detail page behind our Kickresume alternative comparison. Everything below was read from kickresume.com on September 3, 2026 and is linked to its source. If you only want the short version: the free plan gives you 4 templates with no watermark, and Premium auto-renews at $24 per 30 days, $54 per 90 days or $96 a year, with a one-time 14-day money back guarantee.
Free account for downloads. No credit card. No watermark.
As of September 2026, Kickresume's pricing page lists Free at $0 (4 basic resume templates, 4 cover letter templates, 1 website template, unlimited downloads) and Premium at $24 per month billed monthly, $18 per month billed as $54 every 3 months, or $8 per month billed as $96 every 12 months, each with a 14-day money back guarantee. There is no lifetime plan and no trial; "Try for free" leads to the free plan. Prices are in USD for a US visitor.
Renewal is automatic. The Terms of Use say that at the end of the monthly term "you will automatically be signed up and billed for an additional subscription term of 30 days"; quarterly renews for 90 days, annual for a year. You "have to cancel it prior to the end of your current subscription term" and keep access "until the last paid for period expires".
Refunds are narrow. Section 12 of the Terms says subscriptions "are non-returnable" and "no refunds will be paid on any remaining subscription period"; the 14-day guarantee for new users "applies only once to the same user". A Kickresume reply on Trustpilot from December 2025 calls it a "15-day money-back guarantee" handled by support "with no questions asked"; the Terms, last modified January 11, 2024, say 14 days.
Kickresume's general help page still quotes $19, $13 and $7 per month, which does not match the pricing page. And on Trustpilot (4.6 from 3,837 reviews, 4% one-star, as of September 2026) the common complaints are Premium AI limits, which Kickresume says reset each cycle and allow "dozens of resumes per month" (1-star reviews), and the plain-text Word export (2-star reviews).
Paid adds unlimited AI and nothing else, so no template, download or export waits behind a paywall.
Paid is $2.95 for a 14-day trial, then $19.95 per month for unlimited AI and the AI assistant panel; it renews monthly, cancels from account settings, and access lasts to the end of the billing period (pricing page).
Open the resume, click the dots and choose Download; the help center says you can download "as many times as you want" on both plans, with no watermark (help center, as of September 2026). If Premium lapsed and the resume uses Premium design options, switch to a free template first. Skip "Export Text to Word": it is plain text with no layout.
Upload the PDF on the import page (DOCX or a photo also works). Your sections land in the editor, ready for any of the 90+ templates. Started from LinkedIn? See LinkedIn to resume.
If the old resume needs more than a facelift, start from an occupation example (guides in the resume examples hub) and swap in your own content.
PDF and DOCX are free and unlimited, and the Word file keeps its layout (convert a resume PDF to Word). If you hold Premium, cancel before the term ends; access runs "until the last paid for period expires", and closing the account starts a 30-day window after which your data is erased (Terms, as of September 2026).
Kickresume's help center says students and teachers get 6 months of Premium free, and its ATS checker is free for verified students (help center, ATS checker page, as of September 2026).
Kickresume's AI Resume Writer builds a full resume from a 2-step questionnaire on your job title, and its AI Cover Letter Writer drafts from a pasted job ad (help center, as of September 2026). SmoothApply's free credits focus on improving text you already have.
Kickresume includes 1 personal website template on Free and 7 on Premium, and its mobile apps come with Premium (pricing page, as of September 2026). SmoothApply is a browser tool with no website builder.
Free PDF and Word downloads, no watermark, no card on file.

No. As of September 2026, Kickresume's free templates page states that all resumes "can be downloaded without a watermark, even with our free templates". SmoothApply adds no watermark either. The difference is which templates and design options are free, not whether the PDF is clean.
Only in one case. As of September 2026, Kickresume's Terms of Use say subscriptions are "non-returnable" and "no refunds will be paid on any remaining subscription period", but a new user may get a 14-day money back guarantee that "applies only once to the same user"; Kickresume's Trustpilot replies say support processes it. Outside that window, cancel to stop the next charge.
