Cancelling Resume.io, the details

Resume.io Refunds, Charges, and What to Do When Cancelling Goes Wrong

This is the detail page behind the short guide to cancelling Resume.io. It covers where to cancel and what access you keep, how to save your resume first, exactly what Resume.io charges, its refund terms, and the common problems people hit.

Free account for downloads. No credit card. No watermark.

Quick answer

  • Where to cancel: self-serve. Log in, open Account Settings from the profile menu, click the downgrade option at the top, then confirm through the email Resume.io sends. A public cancel page needs only your registered email. As of September 2026, per the help center and the cancel page.
  • Access after cancelling: continues. Premium lasts 30 days from your last monthly payment or 7 days from your last trial payment; cancellation takes effect at the end of the paid term. As of September 2026, per the help center and the Terms of Service.
  • Refunds: a 7-day money back guarantee on the trial, refunds only within the first 7 days of account creation, and no refunds for subscription services beyond that. As of September 2026, per the pricing page, help center, and Terms of Service.

Before you cancel, save your resume

Resume.io's own pages disagree on what the free plan can download, as of September 2026.

While premium is active

Unlimited PDF downloads in any template, per the help center, as of September 2026. DOCX is premium only and limited to eight templates: Stockholm, New York, Sydney, Dublin, Athens (ATS), Brussels (ATS), Prague (ATS), and Shanghai (ATS), per the help center and a product update, as of September 2026. Switch to one if you need Word.

On the free plan

The pricing page lists TXT only. The help article How can I use resume.io for free? allows a PDF in the Vancouver template or TXT, while another help article says TXT only, all as of September 2026. Export to TXT is in the builder's top-right drop-down or the dashboard's More menu.

After you cancel, premium-made resumes remain downloadable, as of September 2026 (source), but only in free-plan formats. So download a PDF of everything now, plus a DOCX where the template allows.

Keep editing the content for free

To keep editing without paying again, import the file into SmoothApply. The importer reads PDF, DOCX, or a photo of a printed resume, and downloads carry no watermark once you create a free account, with no credit card. Only have a TXT? Paste it in section by section, or see converting a resume PDF to Word.

What you are charged if you do not cancel

From the US pricing page and help center, as of September 2026.

Plan What you pay What happens next
7-day trial $2.95 Auto-renews to $29.95 billed every 4 weeks (pricing)
4-week plan $29.95 Renews every 28 days until you cancel (help center)
Quarterly $49.95 Auto-renews to $49.95 billed every 3 months (pricing)
6-month and 1-year Not on the US pricing page One-time payment, no auto-renewal, then free plan (help center)

Two details catch people out. The cycle is 28 days from your initial payment, not a calendar month, as of September 2026 (source), so the charge date creeps earlier and 13 cycles fit in a year; the help center's access article says 30 days, so treat 28 as your download deadline. And the trial converts on its own if not canceled in time; the Terms of Service say you consent to recurring charges until you notify Resume.io of your cancellation, as of September 2026 (help center, Terms of Service).

Prices vary by location, and many subscriptions are billed in US dollars even when a local currency is shown, as of September 2026 (source); check your receipt.

Common problems

Charged after cancelling

A Trustpilot review dated September 2, 2026 says the writer cancelled but was charged anyway, as of September 2026 (Trustpilot). The Better Business Bureau profile for Talent Worldwide, Inc., the company behind Resume.io, shows an F rating, a Pattern of Complaints alert, and 105 complaints in 3 years, as of September 2026 (BBB); it also covers TopResume, TopCV, TopInterview, and ResumeRabbit, so the totals are not Resume.io alone.

What to do: find your confirmation email. If you never confirmed, do it now. If you did, email [email protected] with the confirmation and charge date; failing that, ask your card issuer.

Cannot find the cancel button

The help center puts it at the top of Account Settings, as of September 2026 (source). If it is missing, you may be signed in under a different email; Trustpilot reviewers describe difficulty locating an active subscription, as of September 2026 (Trustpilot). Try the public cancel page with each address you might have used.

The trial ended sooner than expected

A Trustpilot review dated August 8, 2026 describes expecting a trial and ending up paying monthly, and a BBB complaint dated 04/02/2026 says the writer paid $2.95 and was still charged monthly for 2 months, as of September 2026 (Trustpilot, BBB complaints). Within 7 days of account creation, ask for the money back guarantee by name.

Will I lose my resume if I cancel Resume.io?

Not according to the help center as of September 2026. Resumes made on premium remain available to download after you downgrade, but the free plan limits formats to TXT, with one help article also allowing a PDF in the Vancouver template. Download PDF and DOCX copies while paid access is active.
