Resume.io Pricing: What It Costs, What You Get Back, and How to Switch

This is the detail page behind our Resume.io alternative comparison. Everything below was read from resume.io on September 3, 2026 and is linked to its source. If you only want the short version: the free plan downloads TXT, or a PDF in one template, and the $2.95 trial lasts 7 days and then renews at $29.95 every 4 weeks.

Free account for downloads. No credit card. No watermark.

What Resume.io actually charges

As of September 2026, the US Resume.io pricing page shows three options: a free plan at $0.00, a 7-day trial at $2.95 that "auto-renews to $29.95 billed every 4 weeks", and a quarterly plan that "auto-renews to $49.95 billed every 3 months". The trial includes unlimited resumes and cover letters, all premium templates and unlimited PDF downloads, with a "7-day money back guarantee". No credit card is needed for the free plan.

The "every 4 weeks" wording matters. Resume.io's help center states, as of September 2026, that "our monthly subscription is based on a 4-week cycle (28 days)" and that "the 7-day trial automatically converts into a monthly subscription if it is not canceled within the trial period". Because 52 weeks divided by 4 is 13, a full year on that cycle means 13 charges rather than 12. The Terms of Service, last updated May 21, 2026, add that you "consent to our charging your payment method on a recurring basis without requiring your prior approval for each recurring charge, until you notify us of your cancellation".

Refund rules are stated three ways. The pricing page advertises a 7-day money back guarantee with "no questions asked". The help center narrows it: "Our refund policy allows refunds only within the first 7 days of account creation" and "refund eligibility is based on sign-up timing, not usage". The Terms say "no refunds will be provided for our subscription services" apart from the trial guarantee, with a separate 14-day clause for EU customers. All three were read on September 3, 2026.

Two things are easy to miss. First, Resume.io's help center describes 6-month and 1-year plans as one-time payments that downgrade to the free plan when they end, but as of September 2026 no price for them appears on the public US pricing page. Second, the same article says "pricing plans can vary by location", and many subscriptions are billed in US dollars even when a local currency is displayed, so what you see may differ from the figures above.

Public reviews reflect the billing pattern. On Trustpilot, Resume.io holds 4.2 out of 5 from 56,065 reviews as of September 2026; the one-star reviews (4 percent) cluster around the trial turning into a recurring charge and charges continuing after a cancellation attempt. The Better Business Bureau profile for Talent Worldwide, Inc., the company behind Resume.io as well as TopResume, TopCV and other brands, shows an F rating, a "Pattern of Complaints" alert and 105 complaints in the last 3 years as of September 2026. Those totals cover all of the company's brands, not Resume.io alone. One complaint dated June 10, 2026 reads: "I cancelled the day before my free trial subscription was supposed to end and still charged the $29.95 subscription price."

How to switch in 10 minutes

Your content is yours. The only question is what format Resume.io lets you take it out in, which depends on whether you are on the free plan or still inside a paid period.

Step 1: Get your resume out of Resume.io

On the free plan, as of September 2026, the Resume.io help center says you can download your resume or cover letter as TXT, using the Export to TXT option in the builder. A second help article also allows a free PDF in the Vancouver template, so try that first. If you are still on the trial or a paid plan, download a PDF in your current template before the period ends; DOCX is available for 8 templates. After you cancel, the help center says resumes made on premium "will still be available to download", but the format goes back to the free-plan limits.

Step 2: Import it into SmoothApply

Open the import page and drop in your PDF or DOCX. A photo of a printed copy works too. The builder reads the sections and places them into an editable resume. If all you have is the TXT file, pick a template at start from a template and paste each section in, or open an occupation example for your role and replace the sample text with your own.

Step 3: Choose a template and download

Switch between any of the 93 templates without losing your content, adjust fonts, colors and spacing, then create a free account and download as PDF or DOCX. There is no watermark and no upgrade screen between you and the file. If you need a Word version later, the same resume exports to DOCX at any time.

Step 4: Cancel Resume.io if you are on the trial

Do this before the 7 days run out. The walkthrough at How to Cancel Your Resume.io Subscription covers the Account Settings route, the emailed confirmation link, and the public cancel page.

When Resume.io may still be the better fit

You are mid-way through a one-time plan. As of September 2026, the Resume.io help center describes 6-month and 1-year plans as one-time payments that end in an automatic downgrade to free, with no renewal to cancel. If you already paid for one, there is little reason to leave before it runs out.

You want interview practice in the same tool. Resume.io lists AI interview prep among its premium tools as of September 2026. SmoothApply's AI is focused on writing, tailoring and job match, not interview practice.

You track applications from your browser. Resume.io's job tracker comes with a Chrome extension, per its help center as of September 2026. SmoothApply's tracker lives on the site itself; there is no browser extension.

SmoothApply is not affiliated with Resume.io. Prices and policies were checked on September 3, 2026 from the linked sources and may change. If you are trying to stop a charge, see How to Cancel Your Resume.io Subscription. For the full picture of what you get at no cost, see the free resume builder overview.

Frequently asked questions

SmoothApply is a free resume builder with 93 templates, unlimited PDF and DOCX downloads, no watermark, and no credit card. You can build without an account and only need a free account to save your resume and download it. The paid plan adds unlimited AI writing and nothing else, so downloads are never locked behind payment.
Can I import my Resume.io resume into SmoothApply?
Yes, if you have it as a PDF or DOCX. SmoothApply imports PDF, DOCX, or a photo of a printed resume on the import page. If Resume.io only gave you a TXT file, open a template in SmoothApply and paste the text section by section, or start from one of the occupation examples and replace the content with your own.
